In partnership with the Georgia State Leadership Development Office and The Journey with Blue, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute (ENI) hosted an intimate panel discussion Wednesday about the struggles and successes of being an entrepreneur in Atlanta.
It was a spur of the moment switch. My advisor brought up the program to me. At the time, I was a Computer Information Systems (CIS) major, and after taking my first computer programming class, I quickly realized that wasn’t for me. That’s when she shared the option of the Entrepreneurship Major with me that had just become available.
Students from universities across the Southeast pitched their businesses at Georgia State University’s Buckhead Campus to win seed funding at the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Global Student Entrepreneurship Awards (GSEA). The Entrepreneurs’ Organization, better known as EO, is the only global network exclusively for entrepreneurs.
As Tom Freston once said, “A career path is rarely a path at all.” – And for those considering pursing entrepreneurship as a potential career path, those winding turns and uncharted territories can appear even more daunting. To help students navigate those opportunities and challenges, Georgia State’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute (ENI) and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Career Advancement Center (CAC) collaborated to host “Entrepreneurship: Go Your Own Way.”
A popular word for universities these days, and for good reason, is “interdisciplinary.” The idea is that you might need some business training to start a company, but you also need some sort of training in a certain industry or a certain area of expertise to bolster that kind of entrepreneurial mindset. We work with the Creative Media Industry Institute at Georgia State University in the College of Arts and Sciences to offer degrees and experiences in Media Entrepreneurship.
